Lighting in O:BM

When I decompiled the Black Mesa maps and took a look at how their light_spots and overall their lighting functioned, the initial maps used a lot of linear, constant, and quadratic settings together in one light (for example: [linear: 10; constant: 30; quadratic: 60]. In later maps, the lighting was wholly different, with most lights using only quadratic settings and making use of the inner and outer brightness angles more often instead.

Suffice to say, does the O:BM lighting have a strange pattern much like that of Black Mesa's maps, or do you level-design folk only mess with the inner and outer brightness angles?
